Mujer Divina: A Portrait Project
This project is an exploration of femininity. I believe that our uniqueness is what makes us strong, not only as individuals but as a community. Growing up I had a very specific example to follow as to what being feminine meant and what it looked like. I didn’t have many role models that would show the different ways of exploring and embracing femininity. I didn’t know what feeling empowered as a woman meant. As an adult and especially in the last few years, I’ve been fine tuning what being a woman means to me now.
As a photographer, I have the chance to bring to life these expressions and small acts of liberation.
This is a collaboration between subject and photographer as it will give a voice to my subjects and it will be a visual catalog of the multiple forms the feminine can embody.
This is a two-fold project. First, I ask some questions as we get deep into finding your own definition of what being feminine is for you. What does being feminine mean to you? How has this view changed over time? Have you considered how this definition affects your worldview? Is there any shame associated with it? These are just some questions to get you started in finding this definition. Write as much or as little as you’re comfortable with.
Next, we come up with a visual representation of how you feel your most feminine. Is it wearing nothing but accessories and a soft, delicate textile wrapped around you? Is it wearing a flower crown with a long flowy dress? Is it wearing jeans with no top? What colors make you feel most vibrant? Does this version of you come from a cultural background? Let’s unwrap all this.
And then, we shoot.
Once we have decided those two items, we’ll meet at a private studio and spend about 45 minutes to 1-hour taking portraits that represent (and celebrate) you, your femininity and the uniqueness of it.
Is it required to write my definition of femininity and do the pre-shoot work?
This project is a collaboration between us. It is also an exploration and it is not meant to be treated as a portrait sitting only. My goal is to create a safe space for women and female identifying subjects to find this definition of femininity and hopefully empower them to embody this definition in every area in their lives. So yes, absolutely. Let's do the work.
Can I choose the images that will be published? Where will these images live?
This is a project devoted as an artistic expression of the divine feminine's meaning, so as the artist, I choose images to publish alongside a quote from your answers to the questionnaire I send prior to the session. In the beginning, these will be shared online but my ultimate goal is to publish a book. However, none of the images will be sold anywhere to stock photography and will always be in association with the project. It is my intention to showcase a wide range of meanings and expressions.
Is nudity ok for these photos?
Absolutely. If you feel comfortable with it, and if, after exploring your definition of femininity you would like to visually express this in this way, you are welcome to be as nude- or as covered- as you like.
How much does this cost?
This is a project that I've had in mind for some time and my purpose with it is to help the female consciousness, the divine and wild feminine. However, there are costs associated with developing this project so the current cost per session is $200.
